Below is more information regarding the new Guidelines for 2018-2019 Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) University Design Competition for Addressing Airport Needs.  Participation in the competition is often done as part of a capstone design course, for independent credit, or as a student professional society project.

Students win cash prizes and the university receives special recognition.  First place will receive $3000, second place will receive $2000, and third place will receive $1000.  First place winners will present their designs at a special ceremony at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in Washington, DC and at a relevant national conference.

In addition to last year’s topics, the following new topics have been added; one in each of the four challenge areas:

  • New tools and approaches to storm water management methods, water use at airports and dealing with negative impacts of standing water.
  • Methods for improving runway safety during airport construction and reconstruction.
  • Enhanced management approaches to landside functions to include parking and ground transportation.
  • Strategies for safe and effective integration of automated and connected vehicles into the complex airport operations environment.
