The Wall Street Journal (10/20, Subscription Publication) reports the Trump Administration confirmed on Monday that the $100,000 H-1B visa fee will only apply to new applicants living outside the US. Employers must pay the fee after visa approval, as per US Citizenship and Immigration Services. This policy excludesapplicants already in the US, like international students. The fee aims to attract top foreign talent.

Dr. Siegmund, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has an opening for an incoming PhD student in his lab. This position is funded within a research award from the National Science Foundation. This position is for students with interest in mechanics of materials. The research topic is in the context of the structural integrity of plant cell assemblies.
