Research Participants Needed: Cyber-Physical Systems – Human Automation Interaction Study

NSF CPS-Frontier: Cognitive Autonomy for Human CPS: A Collaborative Study

PIs: Dr. Brandon Pitts, Dr. Tahira Reid Smith, Dr. Inseok Hwang, and Dr. Neera Jain

The Jain Research Lab in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University and Flight Dynamics & Control/Hybrid Systems (FD&C/HSL) Lab in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University are looking for students who are willing to participate in an experiment to understand the types of feedback that will best help people to quickly learn a new task. In this experiment, participants will be asked to land a simulated quadrotor while self-reporting trust in automation and self-confidence in task performance.

Participants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision (glasses or contact lenses are acceptable)
  • Have no known disorders or injuries that may affect tactile sensitivity

The experiment will last approximately 30 minutes. Upon completion, participants will earn $20/hr. Participation in this study is completely voluntary and volunteers can withdraw from the study at any time. If participants leave before completion, they will be paid at least $5 per 20 minutes of time completed (rounded to the nearest 20-minute interval).

Experimental sessions will be scheduled on the dates of the second half of October, 2021. The experiment will take place in the REID lab, (Purdue University – School of Mechanical Engineering) ME G015 at Purdue University (585 Purdue Mall, West Lafayette, IN 47907).

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form at:

If you have any questions, please email Jain Research Lab at More information on available experiment sessions will be sent out to those who are interested.
